We believe in sustainable development

JB has taken a proactive role in protecting the environment, constantly striving to improve its environmental preservation performance and minimize the impact of its operations. To this end, several initiatives have already been implemented:

  • Register as a waste producer and product producer in SILiamb (Integrated Environmental Licensing System). The Portuguese Environment Agency provides an online SILiamb system for submitting licensing requests, tracking the licensing process, consulting uses, communicating with the APA/ARH (sending and receiving messages), among other features.
  • In 2012, we joined Sociedade Ponto Verde - Sociedade Gestora de Resíduos e Embalagens S, having been certified by this institution for respecting the management of packaging waste, through adherence to the Integrated Waste and Packaging Management System. Since then, this certificate has been renewed every year.
  • In 2014, a contract was formalized with Amb3E – the Portuguese Waste Management Association. Amb3E – the Portuguese Waste Management Association, the managing entity of the Electrão Network, is responsible for collecting and forwarding for treatment and recovery more than 400,000 tons of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and waste batteries and accumulators (WAA) generated in Portugal. In 2018, Amb3E became the one-stop-shop for environmental compliance in Portugal, with the launch of packaging waste management activities.
  • In the same year, an agreement was signed with Anreee, the National Association for the Registration of Electrical and Electronic Equipment and Batteries and Accumulators.
  • In 2015, we took another important step by installing a 15 kVA self-consumption photovoltaic system. As a clean and environmentally friendly way to produce energy, since it only uses solar energy, JB installed 66 250 Wp Martifer photovoltaic modules.
  • In 2016, we were recognized, along with only 17 other national companies, with the Galp ProEnergy seal, which aims to promote internally good efficiency practices to reduce electricity consumption.
  • We replaced the traditional fluorescent lighting in all our facilities with LEDs. This change encompassed the entire building area, resulting in an estimated 12,480 W power reduction.
  • Reducing water consumption by installing dispensers on the taps in the various bathrooms in our building.
  • Encouraging our customers to reuse cardboard packaging, avoiding the use of plastic bags to package products.
  • Constant concern in reducing packaging used for packaging products, goods, among others.
  • New pavilion equipped with LED lighting and an energy-saving system.
  • Choosing environmentally friendly equipment and appliances with “eco-friendly mode.”

We will continue to promote all our efforts towards reducing our ecological footprint on a planet Earth that belongs to all of us!
